Leaving Los Angeles, on the way to L.A.X. airport, I managed a mini-exploration of the canals in Venice — the neighborhood south of Venice Boulevard.
A burnt-gold cottage caught my eye as we stopped the car on a bridge for a photo op.
Venice Beach Boardwalk
I’ve heard rave reviews about this annual tour from horticulture professionals and garden aficionados.
It’s a chance to get up-close and personal with the unique character of Venice, from jaw-dropping, designer-chic decor and fetching architecture, to kooky bungalow-style.
You can expect to experience a commanding range of garden settings and landscaping artistry in the annual, self-guided tour: a fundraising event sponsoring Las Doradas Children’s Center.
Alice, I guess you aren’t really a palm person, those are Mexican Fan palms in your photo of Venice Beach Boardwalk, or possible W. x filibusta hybrids, but they certainly are not Washingtonia filifera, our only California native palm, and from the desert.
I would agree about the magic of Venice Beach landscapes, and having been on this tour once, would love to do it every year, it is a fun and entertaining tour, and has it all from high end to funky, and that great southern California beach climate for growing so many tender subtropicals that are just out of reach here in Berkeley.
Oops… David, Palms are certainly not my area of expertise. So much for the Wikipedia caption.
Thanks for stopping by. I bow to your palm savvy!!
I wish there was something similar here. There are many private gardens I would love to explore. But like I mentioned to Donna of GWGT it doesn’t seem feasible locally.
